Down a winding road, perfectly positioned in beautiful gardens by the mouth of the Helford river, sits the stunning Budock Vean Hotel and Lodges. With a stage-by-stage refurbishment scheme and 12 lodges planned in total, hotel owner Martin Barlow has put together an expert team of designers and builders for this wonderful project, in order to achieve extraordinary results.

Working closely and collaboratively with the owners, Art Eye was approached to research, source and commission a very special art scheme, designed in order to inspire some beautifully apt and contemplative art for those relaxing there. The scheme has also been carefully curated to perfectly tie in with the interior-design style of the space, the surrounding garden and coastal vistas, the elemental colour-palette and textures — all of this achieved by careful placement and presentation of the art. Each piece has been displayed in a contemporary Cornish style, with hand-painted & lime-waxed frames, by locally-based fine art framers Eat Art.

The scheme of artworks includes local sea glass wall sculptures, original silkscreen prints by Amy Lanyon (the Granddaughter of world-famous Cornish artist Peter Lanyon); signed woodcut and silkscreen prints by nationally renowned artist and designer Angie Lewin and collectible limited edition silkscreen prints by London-based artist Clare Halifax. We have also worked closely with the owners and interior design team to create a collection of large ‘Skyscape’ prints, by local artist Jen Larkin, which feature throughout the hotel, inspired by long-distance walks along the local South West Coast Path.

A staged nature to the refurbishment programme allows us to consult with the owners and designers about the art requirements well in advance of each new phase, in order to create a beautiful collection that grows over time which the hotel’s regular guests can truly enjoy watching evolve.
