Hannah Woodman is based in Cornwall and Devon, where she has her studios on the South coast. She trained at the Courtauld Institute of Art, London, later gaining an MA in Museums and Galleries in Education before turning to painting full-time in 2002.

With a sold-out back catalogue of artworks, Woodman is best known for her large scale oil paintings of wild, isolated spaces, through which she explores the power of individual experience, memory and the contemporary sublime. Her dynamic practice constantly evolves in order to develop a unique language of mark-making, whilst boldly interrogating a landscape painting tradition that has often been dominated by male narratives.

In 2018, Art Eye was honoured to be asked to design and bring to life a new digital presence for Hannah, with her website being entirely reshaped into an engaging, evolving catalogue of work - past and present. We have since maintained and supported the original vision by gently evolving the site and helping with promotional endeavours.

Over the time we’ve been working with Hannah, we’ve gradually added greater capacity to sell online and to immerse audiences, especially when exhibitions were cancelled at short notice in 2020/21. We’ve also been assisting where requested with various goals, including supporting the development and promotion of artists’ editions, and capturing Hannah’s studio spaces/ exhibitions with interactive VR tours.

There is something monumentally special about being out in a landscape alone. When I cannot see another single soul and my surroundings stretch far beyond until they drop into the sea, suddenly comprehending my sense of scale in the world becomes exhilarating...Walking the paper-thin edge of isolation out here over the years, I’ve inadvertently set myself a lifelong challenge; how do you gather an infinite landscape into the confines of a canvas? The answer can only be to keep painting...
