A special series of embossed prints in collaboration with graphic designers Jetty Street Press, for St Austell Brewery's Brewer & Bean coffee bar, in The Great Western Hotel, Newquay – plus other locations across Cornwall, including Padstow and Charlestown.
Great design is all about ‘a concept’, something which creates a sense of place and identity – it’s not about spending a fortune. In the Victorian heyday of these resorts, it was of course the railways which brought people by their thousands to Cornwall and it was the Great Western Railway posters which advertised the county’s delights. So we asked Mevagissey-based Jetty Street Press to help us with this project, because of the unique way in which they reclaim the idealised 'vintage travel-poster' view of Cornwall – depicting both the beautiful and the everyday.
With a resurgence of Cornwall as one of the top holiday destinations in Europe, these prints couldn’t be better timed. And by supporting the local creative scene with a bespoke project, rather than using generic prints, the design project comes alive just a little bit more.
Here are some images of the Great Western Hotel/ Brewer & Bean ‘experience’ and we’re sure you’ll agree that the design details and Jetty Street Press prints have worked really well together – from the Bowler Hat lighting, to the railway motifs, the re-painted furniture and the industrial signifiers of the Victorian Age. We hear it’s ‘going down a storm’, with the guests enjoying the way in which the whole space has been brought together by Art & Design – creating an imaginative, welcoming interior with a real sense of fun.
